Space Saving Packing Hacks (That actually work!)
Packing is an essential part of traveling and there is an art to effective packing. For most, packing is the most dreaded part of traveling but it doesn’t have to be this way. Typically, hauling around more than one suitcase is a big inconvenience so mastering the art of space saving could make your travel day a little less hectic. We’ve put together some serious space saving hacks that you’ll want to put to use the next time you travel.
Pack your socks inside of your shoes.
Consider the empty space in your shoes a bonus storage space when you’re packing. Instead of leaving this space empty, pack your socks inside of your shoes.
Don’t fold your clothes, roll them!
Rolling your clothes is an instant way to minimize how much space each garment takes up. You’ll be surprised at how much smaller rolled clothes get versus folding and stacking them. The only exception to rolling your clothes would be for items that wrinkle easily. A tip for keeping your clothing wrinkle free is to pack them in plastic or a dry-cleaning bag before you put them into your suitcase.
Fold your underwear.
Folding underwear might seem tedious, but it will end up saving you some valuable real estate in your suitcase. We’d even suggest packing your underwear last in order to fit them in whatever available nook and cranny you see to save space.
Always use travel size bottles for toiletries.
There really isn’t a need to pack your entire bathroom. Picking up travel size containers for your shampoo, body wash, and other toiletries will save you a ton of space in your suitcase.
Wear any bulky items instead of packing them.
If you absolutely must pack bulky items, such as a thick winter coat, save space in your suitcase by wearing them instead of packing them inside of your suitcase. Typically, bulky coats will be something you put on frequently, so it makes sense to keep them out of your suitcase and easily accessible.
Really think about what clothes you need.
This might be the hardest part about packing, especially for those who habitually pack those “just in case” outfits that never get worn. Only pack when is absolutely necessary! If you happen to need something that you didn’t pack, chances are you will be able to purchase them at your destination.
